What is GIS?
A Geographic Information System (GIS) enables the capture, storage, manipulation and visualization of data. The concept of GIS is to make data meaningful in order to derive knowledge and apply that knowledge in a decision making process.
The Cowichan Valley Regional District GIS Section is comprised of a group of individuals working together towards common goals for the community. A few of our daily tasks include:
Zoning, OCP and base maps
Internal requests and analysis
Bylaw and public advertisement maps
Products derived from remote sensing
Maintenance of geospatial data including cadastral data
Working with a third party to update the CVRD web map
Public inquiries including property information and data requests
