CVRD Mourns Loss of Rob Patterson, Malahat Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief and Public Safety Champion
Duncan, BC - It is with great sadness the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) marks the loss of our extraordinary volunteer - Fire Chief Rob Patterson. Chief Patterson dedicated more than 19 years of his life to public safety with the Malahat Volunteer Fire Department and was a staunch advocate for road safety and fire prevention.
“Rob was intelligent, caring and family-oriented,” says Kerry Davis, Electoral Area A Director. “He was a man who really cared about the people in his department and the community. The job he did was second to none."
Chief Patterson was on the Executive Board of the Fire Chiefs’ Association of British Columbia and Local Assistant to the Fire Commissioners Office. He worked tirelessly with government and organizations to improve fire protection for citizens and visitors to British Columbia.
Cowichan Valley Volunteer Fire Rescue Departments are working together to provide continuation of essential fire rescue/service to their communities while the Malahat department deals with this tragic loss.
“He made a difference in what he did,” says Conrad Cowan, Manager Public Safety. “He will be missed.”
