In 1994, the CVRD assumed responsibility for the Honeymoon Bay Water System. The system services approximately 160 single-family dwellings, 2 recreational parks (180 sites) and 4 small commercial and institutional developments.
Surface water from a storage impoundment area, created by a concrete dam on Ashburnham Creek, and a pump in Cowichan Lake were replaced in 2009 by a groundwater well located on forestry lands. A free-standing, above-grade 100,000 Igal water storage reservoir and water treatment building were also completed in 2009. Upgrades were completed with funding provided by a BC Community Water Improvement Program Infrastructure Grant, a Federal Gas Tax contribution, and Reserve funds. In 2010 a watermain extension to the Sutton Creek community was completed as part of this project.
